The first storage units company was founded by Collum family in the year 1958, and they named it Lauderdale storage after a name of a town. The ones that are being used today have retained the model of the ancient storage units.

The demands for storage units were at first low, because people could not trust putting their valuables away from their gaze. Though the demand took off in the mid-1900s, as people acquired more wealth and properties, from then they started trusting the services of these storage units. There after the demand for storage units out matched the supply, introducing the proprietors to rush in and fill the gap. This led to construction of over 3000 storage units annually between the year 2000 and 2005.

As at now there are over 6000 storage facilities all over the world today. Of all these facilities 5000 are in the U.S and the rest scattered across Britain, Russia and Australia. The demand for storage units has seen many companies offering the service thus the skyrocket.

Variety

There are different types of storage containers to choose from as well as a variety of sizes. The size is always the determining factor when one is choosing these units. What you want to keep in these units will always find a place to fit in. These units have different measurements, but the standard measures 10 feet by 10 feet and the height is 1.5 meters. These units are ideal for storage of documents, furniture and small appliances. Though there are other bigger units which measure 15 by 20 feet and this gives room for storage of larger commodities such as container shipments. Such storage devices can hold big out door facilities, bid enough to hold trailers and boats.

Security

Storage unit business is a multi-billion industry, and the units are of value to any successful administrator. Access area is limited to clients only. There are various security measures set to make sure that the client valuables are safe.  Precautions include; computer access system, security cameras, security guards and even climate control which is ideal for preservation of valuables inside.
